Music Ministry

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Colossians 3:16

“God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises. A cry from the deep within our being, music is a way for God to lead us to the realm of higher things. As St. Augustine says, ‘Singing is for the one who loves.’ Music is therefore a sign of God’s love for us and of our love for him…Obedient to Christ and to the Church, we gather in liturgical assembly, week after week. As our predecessors did, we find ourselves ‘singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God.’ This common, sung expression of faith within the liturgical celebrations strengthens our faith when it grows weak and draws us into the divinely inspired voice of the Church at prayer.” – Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship (copyright 2007 USCCB)

The Divine Redeemer Choir is open to those in high school and above who wish to use their talents to contribute beauty to the Mass and the lead the congregation in song. Choir members should consider singing and music to be a form of prayer, and consider beauty to be of value and fundamentally of God. Choir members are friendly, humble, and have a flexible attitude in order to learn new things and work together as a whole.

The choir primarily leads the 11 AM Mass on Sunday Mornings and special feast days. The 5 PM Mass and 8 AM Mass are made up of small groups or cantors from the choir.

Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Weekly rehearsals begin the first week of September and end on the Feast of Corpus Christi (June 11, 2023 )
